KTM Newcastle rider Brock McLeary has been confirmed as 2013 Junior Lites champ’ of the Terex Australian Supercross Championship.

After receiving the trophy atop the podium, there was some confusion over the scoring from the previous double-header at Phillip Island. Official scores showed McLeary as runner-up. A re-count has confirmed McLeary as number one, with 177 championship points, over Wilson Todd (176) and Jordan Hill (157)

Relieved with the win, Jeff McLeary from KTM Newcastle said, “there’s been a lot of hard work over the years. It was always the goal to win an Australian Number 1 plate as a junior”.

After working with Matt Moss, Brock said it was Moss’ plan not to “Win the race, just win the championship”. This meant finishing in front of or one point behind Wilson in the final race at Toowoomba.

The tactic calmed McLeary. “I knew I had to go out there and do a job and that’s what I did.”

This is the first national title for McLeary, whose focus is now on next year’s preparation to race in the Under 19s age group.
