Gun youngsters sign off junior dirt track

Several of Australia’s most talented young motorcycle riders contested their final meeting as juniors at the 2013 Honda Motorcycles / Tumut Motorcycle Accessories NSW Junior Dirt Track Championships meeting last weekend.

The Central Coast Junior Motorcycle Club Inc. hosted the event at its Allen Park track at Somersby on the Central Coast and the quality of the racing again showed what a great pool of motorcycling talent there is progressing through the junior dirt track ranks.

Riders are able to stay in the junior ranks for the remainder of the calendar year after they actually turn 16 and it has been a busy schedule for riders over the past month with one national title meeting, as well as State title meetings in Queensland, Victoria and last weekend in NSW.

Not everyone can go out on top though with no-one able to score more than one class win in the ultra-competitive 13 to 6 years classes.

Most successful was Cowra rider Thomas Duggan (pictured above) who scored a win and two seconds and will now contest the NSW Senior Track Championships meeting at the Blayney Showground on November 2 as his first senior outing.

Also going into the senior ranks will be another Cowra rider Ben Cook who had to settle for two third placings to end a junior career with numerous title victories.

Central Coast rider Jack Passfield also signed off with a second placing.

The two riders who spoilt the party for those graduating into seniors were yet another Cowra rider Jack Dawes and North Brisbane rider Jarred Brook – both scoring a class win.

Dawes and Brook have another year left in the junior ranks and are no doubt glad to see the last of Duggan, Cook and Passfield.

The intensity of the competition was evidenced by no rider managing to win more than one class in any age division, and even riders winning all their races were made to work extremely hard to achieve that feat.

There was further proof with one final decided by one one-hundredth of a second as Hunter Club rider Tom Edwards pipped Mitchell Cluff.

Queensland riders Broc Pearson and Max Whale shared the honours in the two 11 to under 13 classes.

Other class winners were Senna Agius, James Pearson, Caleb Porter, Harry Scott and Tia Davis (Central Coast), Max Stauffer and Nathan Pryor (Kurri Kurri), Matthew Gilmore (Cowra) and Tom Drane (Forbes).

Officials of the meeting invoked provisions of the Code of Conduct covering motorcycle sport and excluded several riders from the results of the meeting due to the behaviour of parents.
